I actually managed to get out of the house this weekend. I'm all proud of myself, etc.
I'd said, half in jest, that I would go to the party chez
renarde and
paul_kruzycki yesterday, assuming that the car started. Naturally, the car didn't start. (Something is draining its battery when it's shut off—I suspect the pay-as-you-drive-insurance GPS monitor.) However, since it was not (yet) raining in Oxford, I put the battery charger on for an hour (not a wise thing to do when it's raining), and then drove the car across southeast England and back. That'll show it. The party was nice too; well done Paul for standing bravely in the rain with the barbecue.
Today I was to meet
gmh and
clanwilliam in Oxford for lunch, and then go sing. I grabbed my gown (for the singing), got on the bike, and went to the appointed pub. When I got there I was horrified to see a gaping blank space where my gown (and my lock cable, and the bungee cord that should have been holding it all on) should have been. The gown was by no means cheap, and is not the sort of thing I could easily replace just now. So I hurriedly apologized to Gideon and turned around in a semi-panic to retrace my route. I spotted it near the train station. Some saint had actually stopped to pile it, the cable, and the cord on the wall along the pavement, out of the way of traffic. I hate to think what sort of cycling accident I might have nearly caused. On the other hand, I'm sure a gown is not a gown until it's been dragged through sufficient muck.
So after that minor heart attack and the subsequent relief, a drink was very welcome. Lunch was tasty (the Eagle & Child do a really nice Sunday roast), and it was nice to see Gideon & Jenny.
Choir went well too. I might have been a bit overenthusiastic on that last though, because my throat hurts a bit. But when one of the hymns is "Holy holy holy", what's a girl to do?
