I called Oxford this morning so that I could officially barrage them with questions. The lady I talked to was nice enough to remind me which colleges I applied to, and in which order (University, Exeter, Corpus Christi, and Keble, evidently.) She said that my file is still at University for consideration, and that my application is ahead of a lot of others because I got it in a couple of weeks early, and that finding people places at college isn't a problem. She has no idea when decisions will be made about the Costopoulos scholarship, but the Clarendon decisions should be made by the end of the month. I've spent the evening browsing around on the websites. Anyone who was amused by the reference to "Michaelmas term 2003" should go read the University College online handbook, for loads of merriment. And they have a ballroom team! Yay.

I think I might really be able to go. That's so weird.

Today involved more baby horse cuteness, some actual horse riding, and otherwise just hanging around the farm. My butt is sore from the riding. (I always get Bid to ride, and I've known him since I was three, but he's getting old -- obviously -- and walks at about half the pace of the other horses. Unless he's headed back toward the barn. And he trots kind of roughly.) There was an outage at Dad's ISP most of the day, so he was almost convinced to get that broadband satellite today. He wants me around for the install though, and I'm leaving Monday. (They live way too far out for cable or DSL.)

(Oops. Forgot to do my Latin vocabulary today.)

Today: peace and quiet for most of the day, then drinking with parents.

I woke up around 12:30 to find that my dad had let me sleep rather than dragging me to the horse show. Tragic, I tell you. So I just sat around the house, doing Latin and trying not to spend too much time on the internet.

This evening my mom's friend Debbie came up from Houston, and is spending the night. She was a local friend when I was very little, and I last saw her when I was 16. So I got to see her and Mom getting tipsy on margaritas. It's always weird to be out drinking with one's parents; I don't think I said anything embarrassing.

If you're bored of reading about Oxford, skip this. )

I checked on prices to get to Madison for the visiting weekend. They were under $200, so I'll probably just go ahead and book it. If it's more than I can afford I can just beg the money off my parents or something. And hopefully they'll offer me a fellowship and I can be reimbursed or something.
